BREATHING- "What Is The Big Deal?"

Many singers have e-mailed me asking about "Breathing"

"What is the most effective way to breathe?"

"Should I breathe through my nose or through my mouth?"

Well,

there are many effective breathing exercises. It is important that you understand the goals and objectives of  breathing exercises.  This will allow you to determine which exercises work best for you.

Breathing exercises strenghten the diaphragm. The diaphragm is the muscle which allows you to hold air. The stronger your diaphragm is, the more air you can hold, the  more air you can hold, the more sound you can produce.

EX: Immediately before you yell or scream, you take a deep breath. AAAHH!

When doing breathing exercises and singing,  it is  essential that you breathe in through your mouth (not your nose).  You want to take in as much air as you can and you can take in more air through your mouth than through your nose.   There is no magic way to breathe.

An effective breathing exercise will include muscle strenghtening and application.
